You build it, you aim it

Catapultia is a turn-based castle duel in 3D for two players. Each of you builds a castle out of blocks around a heart, and then you take turns firing at the other castle with a catapult, a trebuchet or a ballista. The first to destroy the other heart wins.

Build phase: sandstone walls and a canopy around the heart, a water barrel beside them, the catapult at the edge of the zone and a row of eight blocks with their gold prices.

Build in secret

Both players build at the same time, with 90 seconds and limited gold. Palisades, stone blocks, walls, ironbound blocks, canopies, haystacks, tile roofs and water barrels go up around the heart. Your opponent sees none of it until the battle starts.

Whatever loses support falls

Every building is made of 10 cm cubes, and a stone knocks out a crater sized by the force of the hit. Knock out the bottom row and the top comes down. In one test on a phone, a single shot knocked out 578 cubes and brought down 551 more.

Aim by hand

There is no aiming line. You set the rotation, the angle and the power, see where the shot lands and correct the next one. Flags mark your last three shots, and the spyglass shows the enemy castle up close.

The same wind for both

Wind runs from calm to strong and pushes shots aside. It changes at the start of every fourth turn, so both players fire twice in the same wind. Memorised numbers stop working, and every match starts with ranging in.

Special ammo

The catapult and the trebuchet can fire a stone cluster that splits into five stones, or a fire pot. The ballista gets fire bolts and piercing bolts.

Fire and water

A fire pot sets wood burning for several turns, and the fire spreads to buildings next to it. A water barrel puts out fire around it, and tile roofs don’t burn. You can also burn the heart, which gives you a second way to win.

Build phase: the heart sits under a canopy between sandstone walls, with a water barrel beside it.

Hide the heart

You hide the heart behind walls and canopies, and until the battle your opponent doesn’t know where it stands. Once the battle starts it’s in plain sight, and the question is how to reach it. Instead of shooting, you can move it somewhere safer.

Weapon menu between shots: power, accuracy and damage upgrades, special ammo, swapping and moving the weapon, with 367 gold to spend.

Gold for knocked-out cubes

Cubes you knock out earn gold. Between shots you spend it on new blocks, on power, accuracy and damage upgrades and on special ammo. Pay gold to swap your weapon for another one, and you still get this turn’s shot.

Three weapons that play differently

The balance comes from hundreds of computer-vs-computer matches. Against the other two, the catapult won 53% of the time, and the trebuchet and the ballista 48% each.

  • Catapult

Strength: Range, accuracy and impact are all balanced.

    Weakness: Nothing stands out.

  • Trebuchet

Strength: A heavy stone hits farther and harder.

    Weakness: More spread.

  • Ballista

Strength: Shoots almost straight and precisely.

    Weakness: Walls catch its bolts.

Weapon choice during the build: cards for the catapult, the trebuchet and the ballista with their pros and cons, and Left and Right buttons for the weapon’s place.

Play the computer or a friend

Play menu with three modes: Vs computer, Local network and Online.
  • Against the computer

The whole match runs on your phone. The computer knows only what a player can see.

  • Over Wi-Fi

Two phones on the same network. The game finds the other phone by itself, and if the connection drops you can get back into the match.

  • Online with a friend

Create a room and tell your friend the six-digit code, or enter theirs. If the connection drops, you have a minute to get back into the match.

Every upgrade is earned in the match

  • The game has no ads, in-app purchases or accounts.
  • Upgrades and special ammo are paid for with gold you earn during the match.
  • The server works out every shot, so nobody can tweak the result on their own phone.
  • The server picks the wind, and it is the same for both players.

Bring down the wall

A small toy made for this page. Set the angle and the power and fire at the cube wall. Knock out the cubes at the bottom and everything above them falls. Buildings in the game break by the same rule.

Lower the angle to hit the bottom rows. If the stone falls short, add power.

The wall is drawn as an image. After each shot the result is also written out as text below the controls.

Catapultia is a turn-based castle duel in 3D. Build a castle out of blocks, protect its heart and take turns firing at your opponent’s castle with a catapult, a trebuchet or a ballista. The first to destroy the other heart wins.

Build

Both players build at the same time, with limited gold and a timer. Palisades, stone blocks, walls, ironbound blocks, canopies, haystacks, tile roofs and water barrels: place them and cover the heart. Your opponent’s castle stays hidden until the battle starts.

Aim by hand

No aiming line shows where your shot will go. You set the rotation, the angle and the power, see where the shot lands and correct the next one. Flags mark where your last three shots landed. The wind changes every few turns and pushes shots aside. Swipe to turn and raise the weapon, drag the “Pull” button and let go to shoot, or switch to power buttons and “Launch” in the settings. The spyglass shows the enemy castle up close.

Break it down

Buildings are made of small cubes. A stone knocks a crater out of a wall, and whatever is left without support falls. A fire pot sets wood on fire for several turns; water barrels put out fire nearby, and tile roofs don’t burn.

Gold and upgrades

Knocked-out cubes earn gold. Between shots, spend it on new blocks, on power, accuracy and damage upgrades, and on special ammo: a stone cluster that splits into five stones and a fire pot for the catapult and the trebuchet, fire and piercing bolts for the ballista. Instead of shooting, you can move the heart to a safer spot or move your weapon to the other side of your zone. For gold you can also swap your weapon for another one and still shoot this turn.

Three weapons

  • Catapult: range, accuracy and impact are all balanced.
  • Trebuchet: a heavy stone hits farther and harder, but with more spread.
  • Ballista: shoots almost straight and precisely, but walls catch its bolts.

Ways to play

  • Against the computer.
  • Over Wi-Fi: two phones on the same network.
  • Over the internet with a friend: create a room and tell your friend the six-digit code, or enter theirs. If the connection drops, you have a minute to get back into the match.

If neither heart falls within 60 rounds, the heart with more health wins.

The game is in English and Russian. No ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts. Found a bug? Settings → Report a problem sends a report to the developer.
